Iran-Israel war live: Iran accuses U.S. of ceasefire breach, vows to ‘soon respond’ after U.S. destroyer hits cargo ship
Iran is not currently planning to attend talks with the United States, state media said, after President Donald Trump ordered U.S. negotiators to travel to Pakistan on Monday (April 20, 2026), just days before a ceasefire in West Asia expires.
Iran’s military has vowed to respond after a U.S. destroyer on Sunday (April 19, 2026) fired on an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman that tried to evade a U.S. naval blockade.
“We warn that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond and retaliate against this armed piracy and the U.S. military,” said a spokesperson for the military’s central command centre, Khatam Al-Anbiya, cited by ISNA news agency.
He accused the United States of having “violated the ceasefire” that has been in place since April 8.
