NEW DELHI – A fire broke out early Friday morning in the battery room of a multi-storey office building housing a Tata Communications facility in Greater Kailash-I, South Delhi. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received an emergency call regarding the blaze at approximately 2:47 a.m.
Incident Overview
The fire was confined to a battery room on the third floor of the building, covering an area of approximately 200 square feet. Eleven fire tenders were rushed to the location opposite Savitri Cinema to contain the situation. While the flames were brought under control by 7:00 a.m., two firefighters sustained burn injuries to their hands while battling the fire and were subsequently transported to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment. No civilian injuries or casualties were reported.

Following the incident, concerns emerged regarding potential internet service disruptions across areas such as Rohini and North West Delhi, with some users reporting slow speeds or connectivity issues with platforms like Google and YouTube. However, Tata Communications officially stated that it promptly activated its business continuity protocols to minimize service disruptions for customers served by the data center. While local users experienced intermittent connectivity, the company maintains that it is monitoring the situation to ensure service stability.
